What is the Magee Project?
Please note! Legal disclaimer – The Magee Project is not related in any way to Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC!
The Magee Project is a pro-life campaign to encourage the restoration of a culture of life to Magee-Womens Hospital. The greatest step we can take toward accomplishing this mission is to encourage Magee to stop committing abortions.
We know that abortion has been practiced at Magee since before the decriminalization of abortion in 1973. Associate professors at Pitt perform abortions at Magee and the University of Pittsburgh offers abortion training to medical students. In 2024, according to reports submitted to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health, 542 abortions were performed at Magee including 149 second trimester abortions. Abortions are performed at Magee to at least 24 weeks.
Many families report pressure to abort when complications arise in pregnancy.
Project History
We began this project in April of 2016 with a foundation of prayer, asking volunteers to commit to praying at Magee one day a month.
When COVID changed everything, we asked people to pray from anywhere and more than doubled the number of prayer volunteers! We now offer the opportunity to pray at Magee or from anywhere. You can contact TheMageeProject@gmail.com for current sign up information.
We offer a Prayer Guide that lists the names of abortionists to pray for by name.
Church at Magee
Covid restrictions inspired us to create an outdoor event where we could safely gather to meet and prayer walk around the hospital. We call it the Church at Magee, meeting on the fourth Sunday of the month at 4pm. During the warm months, May through September, we gather in a nearby park to worship and hear messages from local pastors and pro-life groups, followed by a prayer walk around the hospital.
All are welcome! November through March we meet on the same fourth Sunday of the month, at 4pm for the prayer walk only.
Events
Over time we’ve hosted many events like a 24 hour prayer event, a week long Jericho Walk, and In April of 2024 and 2025 we held a Stations of the Cross Prayer Walk.
In October, we speak to the Board of Directors of Magee at their annual public meeting, held virtually since covid. We hold a rally and prayer walk the same day.
The “Hidden History” of Live Organ Removal Abortions at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
With the help of Pennsylvania Pro-life Coalition we produced a brochure about Dark Deeds coordinated by Magee and the University of Pittsburgh to procure aborted baby bodies and baby parts for Pitt’s tissue bank. Questions remain about the probability that babies were alive when their parts were taken for macabre research. You can read an extended version here: UPMC Hidden History or request a shorter print version.
We strongly encourage everyone to send a copy of this report to their legislators to ask them to investigate the findings.
